Welcome to the My Part Community Advancement Organization website. You will likely notice that our site is dominated by the Young Leaders Run the City (YLRTC) program. That is because we are so excited about our maiden program, which endeavors to make improvement in the lives of people in the community. We appreciate your interest in our organization and our program and hope that you will find the site useful. Further, we hope that you share in our excitement and decide to contribute to a worthy cause.
Over the past few years, the residents of Cleveland have been weathering a perfect storm of economic issues. High poverty rates, job losses, and increases in educational costs have legislators and appointed officials searching for solutions to the "big" issues. With a public discourse focusing on voter levies and budget shortfalls, My Part's nonprofit mission is to address the "small" issues that can serve as "lifeboats" to people in the community trying to weather the storm. In its inaugural year, My Part is focused on raising awareness and money for kids in the economically challenged Cleveland Municipal School District. To deliver on our goal, we created Young Leaders Run the City, whereby a team of young professionals will run the races of the Rite Aid 28th Annual Cleveland Marathon & 10K. The program combines the commitment of these burgeoning leaders with the support of corporate sponsors, contributions from generous donors, and help from gracious volunteers to make a meaningful difference in the life of children. Money raised from the Program's activities and events, which also includes a fundraising dinner in Cleveland and cocktail reception in NYC, contribute to the Kids First Fund . The Kids First Fund serves to provide nominal financial support to students in the District to ensure that "small" financial concerns are not a roadblock to reaching their maximum educational potential. Family expenses such as school clothes, winter wear, student transportation to a summer job, and travel to visit colleges are often overlooked within public discussions. However, these concerns can be addressed by the Kids First Fund, which is administered under the guidelines of section 501(c)3 of the IRS code and distributed based on economic need. Reaching our fundraising goal of $100,000 requires the support of corporations, media partners, and individual donors. Your individual participation can take many forms - volunteering, cash contribution, "spreading-the-word", and getting your employer involved through a gift-matching program. If you represent a business, your corporate participation will position your business favorably in the community as it touches 7,000 runners, thousands of onlookers, volunteers, and attendees, and most important, kids in the Cleveland Municipal School District. Thanks again for your consideration and generosity. We look forward to working with you to improve the lives of people in the community in 2005 and beyond. Sincerely, |
